Symptom Tracking V1
What a lesson in product management. Drunk with my newfound Claude-enabled power, I packed too much into this next pass. I used it for about a month, interating over that time, but would call this app a failure.
The possibility of logging everything that might be valuable was a trap
Once again, I used Claude to develop a PWA that I could use on my phone. Though the code is too messy to be worth sharing, I did come away from the project with a stronger sense for what does work. Namely:
- The simple, delightful logging interface, even for so many items; tapping icons on my phone > typing into an excel sheet.
- Something like the macro score - my attempt to summarize the overall picture - is useful.
The day score on the top line of the chart page was a first pass at summarizing the overall state of my health given symptom inputs.
But it was too much:
- Bloated with symptoms and new functionality, the app quickly became unwieldy. I'd re-start from scratch with a streamlined set of inputs + simpler functionality to ensure clean code.
- I didn't need the complexity of the charting + scores on my phone. For multiple reasons, I'd prefer it live more cleanly on my desktop. Next time, I'll develop for that transition.
Making sense of the big picture on the mobile screen was a rabbit hole, even after optimizing the interface sizing.
